A study conducted to promote Indian Circus
Please support and share your ideas and suggestions with us....

The 130-year-old Indian circus industry, once the favourite form of entertainment with family and friends, is struggling to survive. This study aims to reveal the current trend and constrains faced by the Indian circus industry and its owners, artists, labourers and their families. Also tries to lighten the attitude of the public towards this great art.Circus is a different art which needs both physical strength and mind to hard work. The Indian circus today is struggling to remain afloat amidst the many challenges like scarcity of funds, fading public interest, performance license requirements, a decline in the quality of artists, ban on animals and stricter animal Regulations.

We are just trying to perpetuate and promote Indian Circus Art. We carried out study with the cooperation and support of Leading Circus Companies of India. Also carried our public surveys to know about the recent trends and attitude of the public towards this Great Art.Now we are doing public awareness /campaigns for the promotion of Circus.
The ultimate aims of this study is to perpetuate and promote Indian Circus Art, promote circus among the public and work for the welfare of circus companies, artists, employees, animals etc.

In 1969 - 70, in my teen years, I was the music director for the New Grand Circus. I joined them in Ooty, and re-organized the band of 4 musicians (2 trumpets, saxophone and drums). When I found them, they simply stopped playing after an act. I taught them to play "TA-DAAA" at the finishes, and introduced new songs for the acts. Bhim Bahadur was the ringmaster. Other acts were a young acrobat named Kumari Amini, and a motorcycle stuntman who rode around inside a metal globe named Moinuddin (his most famous stunt was the "Leap for Life").

We played for a private royal audience at the (first) marriage festivities of the son of the Maharaja of Mysore. The palace was completely lit at night, and there was a great procession with many elephants, etc.

Do you have any info on the history of my dear old circus, both before and after 1969? Btw, I am an American. James

By the way, Bhim Bahadur was also the wild animal (lions and tigers) trainer for the New Grand Circus. He was a real master!

Hello Shantanu,

I tried hard but I am unable to find about the Circus you are asking about. And moreover, Circus people don't trust outsiders seeking information about them as there are many people and so called NGOs always ready to harm circus with their stupid allegations.
